Rembrandt's last home was located here
Antiek Tattoo is housed in the last residency of Rembrant van Rijn (1658-1669), on the Rozengracht nr 184. The studio breathes a unique atmosphere thanks to its special location and a team of passionate artists.
It is also where the painter passed away in 1669. He moved here in 1658 after he had lost most of the wealth. His common-law wife, Hendrickje Stoffels, died from the plague in 1663. Five years later, in 1668 his beloved son Titus also died at only 27 years old. Despite these hardships, his artistry increased. It was here that he painted some of his best-known works: the Staalmeesters (1662), the Jewish Bride (1665) and his later self-portraits.
Rozengracht 184 is included in several city tours about Rembrandt. Check out the ones from IAMsterdam and Rembrandt House Museum. You can however also walk the same route with an in person tour guide taking you on a city walk in which you will see and hear countless aspects of Rembrandt's life.
It goes without saying that on a regular basis we honor his legacy by engaging in special projects. Scroll down for more information about our projects.

2019 - The year of rembrandt ..
… the 350th anniversary of Rembrandt van Rijn's death. The master from the Golden Age died on October 4, 1669 on the Rozengracht 184 in Amsterdam. 2019 has therefore been officially renamed Rembrandt Year.
The following year, after getting inspired by creating the 3 self portraits in 2018, we created 30 self portraits. We asked 30 artists to put their own interpretation of Rembrandt’s famous self-portrait with two circles’ on Canvas’. All paintings can be seen on our instagram page
2019 - Collaboration with the rembrandt house museum
In collaboration with the museum, we set up eight stands in front of the Rembrandt House museum and we organized various activities, ranging from painting workshops for children and adults, live painting, ink prints in the style of Rembrandt, and bringing our art to the street.
2024 - book presentation ‘sex, drugs and rock ‘n roll’
Sex, Drugs and Rock 'n' Roll in Rembrandt’s Time focuses on the generation of rich young men that grew up in the seventeenth century in the Dutch Republic. These men had more money to spend on clothes, music, and recreation than the generation before them. This fascinating account of male adolescence in the Dutch Republic reveals how young men including Rembrandt van Rijn disregarded conservative values and rebelled against the older generation, and consequently created a new youth culture that was similar to the one of the 1960s. They had long hair, wore colorful and extravagant clothing, and started taking drugs. Theirs was the first generation in European history to smoke tobacco. Moreover, they defied conventional norms and values with their promiscuity and by singing lewd songs in their free time. Check out the pictures of our exhibition on our event page
