Lightening the old tattoo

A laser session (or a few) doesn’t always need to fully remove the tattoo. Even partial fading makes the old ink lighter, so the new tattoo doesn’t have to be overly dark or large to hide it.

More design freedom

Laser fading allows for greater design flexibility. Without it, cover-ups often need to be bold and heavy, using a lot of black and shading. With fading, artists can explore a wider range of colors, add finer details, and create softer styles.

Cleaner final result

A lighter background can help prevent an old tattoo from showing through a new one over time, especially if the original tattoo is dark or has bold outlines.

Better skin condition for tattooing

Compared to covering up with thick, heavy ink layers, lasering first means the skin won’t be as saturated with pigment, which can help the new tattoo heal and age more gracefully.

Future proofing

If the client ever wants another change later, starting with a faded tattoo gives more options than piling dark ink over dark ink.
